Hometown: Seattle, Washington

Education: University of Connecticut, Kinesiology & Coaching/Administration

Hockey Experience: Sioux City Musketeers, USHL (1999-2000); Tri-City Storm, USHL (2000-03); University of Connecticut (2003-07); South Carolina Stingrays, ECHL (2007-10)

Community Involvement: Giving back to the community is very important to Matt. Currently, he volunteers with the Charleston Women’s Soup Kitchen, Ronald McDonald House, Hat Trick for Reading and other elementary reading programs, St. Andrews Presbyterian Church activities, afterschool tutoring programs, and Shoreline Adult special-needs care.

“I got involved with HP4K through Spencer Carbery, and thought it was a terrific way to get involved and help in our city. It makes great sense to have the networking options that are available through HP4K in so many different regions and levels of pro hockey.  Any player could get to a new team and instantly have community service options open to them. It also provides a means of expansion and word of mouth for this very worthwhile organization.

Recruiting teammates to join in on the adventures is easy — sometimes a little guilt goes a long way. Hockey players have a fair amount of down-time during the season and it never hurts to use that time for positive action.  Right now we’re arranging a day for our team to work with Habitat for Humanity.”
