Pucks and Pancakes may have originated in Cincinnati, Ohio with the Cyclones, but now it’s available to all HP4K members! We have put together a tutorial for you to use to make this program a success in your community.

This is a fun addition to the HP4K lineup, says Dan Eves. Not being in a school environment allowed the kids more freedom to enjoy our company and have fun in ways other than being in the classroom.

It’s important to remember that we are all where we are because of the generosity and help of many while we were young and just starting out.”

Hess Street Stick to Reading

“Stick to Reading was a huge success at Hess Street School,” said Kyle Hagel of the Hamilton Bulldogs. All students from grades four to eight participated. The finale consisted of two ball hockey games: one for the fourth to sixth graders, and one for the seventh and eighth graders. The kids had a great time and made the games highly competitive. Special thanks to Bulldog’s mascot Bruiser for making a loud and enthusiastic appearance. The players who took part were: Jarred Tinordi, Zack Stortini, Nate Beaulieu, Antoine Corbin, Tyler Murovich, Joe Stejskal and Kyle Hagel. Principal Sharon Ciannavei reported that the kids really enjoyed the program and worked really hard for the opportunity to play in the game.

HP4K in Cardiff

The Cardiff Devils ran an HP4K night to raise money for Stick to Reading programs, local youth groups they are working with and Ty Hafan – a local children’s hospice. HP4K and the Devils would like to thank all those involved who generously donated. As well, HP4K would like to thank the Devils organization for their support, Jordan Fox of the Nottingham Panthers, and the Belfast Giants for their generous donations.

In addition, Stu Macrae, Chris Blight, Tyson Marsh and Mac Faulkner have been running a Stick to Reading program at a local elementary school this season, and many Devils players have been involved in working with local youth groups. Click here to find out more!

Rush for Research

Jarrett Konkle, his teammates on the Rapid City Rush, and GM Tim Hill found themselves in a hairy situation. The team proposed that they would shave their heads if fans could raise $10,000 towards the fight against cancer. Fans answered the call and raised $10,800 in one evening, adding to their jersey auction amount for a total of almost $43,000 to be donated to the cause. Stick to Reading: Littlebrook and Princeton University

Princeton University’s mens hockey team is at it again. For the third year in a row, students of Littlebrook Elementary faced off against the Tigers in a floor hockey game held at lunchtime. This year’s competition was stiff, as students had to read over 1,575 pages during the month of January.

Katowice Shoot Out for Kids

Zane Kalemba and the rest of GKS Katowice began a program for kids at a local Dom Dziecka in their town in Poland (read our first post about the program here). Through their interaction with a few organizations they were able to bring 25 kids to a game in December.

Around the same time, Zane and his teammates met with another local home, Dom Dziecka Tecza, and started raising money through their shoot out challenge. In early February, at one of their games, the team was able to present the kids from Tecza Children’s Home with a check for 3,100 zloty, about the equivalent of $1,000. During this game the players, coaches, and managers also made pledges based on team points earned. After pledging the team had it’s most successful run of the season so far, going 7-2-1 in 10 games.
