“As professional athletes, it’s quite obvious the influence we have on young children. At Notre Dame, I became involved in the group ‘Hounds for Humanity,’ where the philosophy of serving others was deeply instilled in me. Throughout college, I participated in the Yale Youth Hockey Association and tutored at New Haven-area schools. This year, I’ve assisted in community book drives and reading functions at various schools in the Elmira area. With help from our team’s community relations coordinator, I’m trying to set up a ‘Reading for Tickets’ promotion where students can get tickets to games if they read a certain amount of books or pages in a book. We’re still working out the details, but I’m very excited about it.”
